There are zillions of websites with wedding planners and countdowns- just google “wedding checklist”. However, I found the Knot.com checklist really helpful. Brides.com also has checklists and more wedding information.
One thing to keep in mind is to find local resources. Some cities have bridal shows/fairs each year. Look in the newspaper for the just married or engagements section and you’ll often find clues to the local traditions. For example some places announce the wedding in the paper months before the wedding, while here its usually the day after or even months later. Plus this section of the newspaper will help you with vendors.
Good luck and before you do anything sit down and talk budget (very hard to stick to, but trust me you’ll want to avoid debt).

there can be a whole lot more. The internet is your best friend when it comes to planning a wedding. I don’t suggest buying all the important things off the internet. First things first you want to sit down with your fiance and talk about what kind of wedding you want. And remember to make this a fun process. You will come to a lot of bumps in the road. But try not to let it get to you. Believe me, in the end it will all be worth it. Have fun and good luck.

The Knot. Be sure to check out their budget calculator too.
First off – Congratulations Bride-to-be!
Second – Are you wearing an engagement ring?
Third – Have you and your boyfriend gone public yet?
If your answer to all the above is yes, your engagement is official.
Next. Commendations! You are giving yourself plenty of time to plan your wedding. The fact is a minimum of nine months is needed in order to plan, order the cake, dresses, perform alterations, organize and manage your wedding. Don’t move the date up unless it is necessary.
Now follow these steps to get off to a good start.
1. Announce your engagement to family at the next family gathering.
2. Announce your engagement online (view link below) and in local newspapers and journals.
3. Arrange a meeting with your fiancé and discuss who will be in the bridal party as well as your wedding budget.
Be very clear on how much you will spend, how much you will save and how much to put aside for living expenses for unforeseen occurrences such as job lay off or illness.
Many sites feature a wedding budget planner. Write it all down and put the pages in a file for future use The links below will provide a complete wedding budget planner that will get you started and help you save big money.
Remember you may still have to acquire an apartment or buy a house. Furnish and decorate the home and pay for living services. This costs money. That said is usually best to keep your wedding simple and be able to enjoy your marriage.
4. If parents will be paying for the wedding this is the time for them to be open regarding cost limitations. Frankly ask them what they think a reasonably planned wedding might cost. After they give you a figure ask them if they think this is something they can work with.
5. Consider this: Are you a traditional Bride, something of a free thinker or somewhere in the middle. If tradition means a lot to you get a book on wedding ceremony etiquette. The resources listed below should help you find all that your looking for. If you are somewhere in the middle read the book and use only the traditions that mean something to you and your immediate family. Take mom into consideration but don’t let her get carried away with tradition.
6. Don’t let your mother, aunt, sister or friend run your wedding. the tendency is to take over. Seize control of your wedding and remain in control. Indecisiveness tends to lead to confrontation and takeovers. Therefore take time to jot down some initial plans on paper.
Here is a wedding plan starter.
b. Color
c. Flower
d. Kind of wedding dress/gown
e. Bridesmaids
f. Maid of Honor
In time write everything down and design the kind of wedding you would like.
7. Get your hands on bridal magazines or go online to bridal websites and read, read, read. Absorb the simpler ideas regarding wedding planning.
8. Get your hands on a wedding planner organizer and fill in the worksheets. Before you know it your wedding plans will begin to take form.
Tips: To figure out the overall theme of your wedding look thru some cake catalogs. When you arrive at a cake that you simply love. This should inspire you in terms of a design theme for your wedding as well as colors and flowers.
To come up with an overall dress theme look at a number of guest book designs. This will inspire the look of your wedding attire. Do you prefer a lacey guest book or one that has silver stripes against black velvet? Does the ivory appeal to you? What kind of floral design does it feature? Once you settle on a cake or guest book design, you have an idea of the design theme for your wedding.
You may also want to take a look at the Hall in which you will exchange vows and view photos of wedding had there.
Remember to record all information, expecially ideas and final decisions in your wedding planner organizer.
Best wishes
